What You Need to Start

Essential:

  • Hue Bridge: The hub that controls all your Hue lights ($60)

  • Smartphone: iPhone or Android for the Hue app

Starter Kit Option:

Hue Bridge: Do You Need It?

Technically, newer Hue bulbs can connect via Bluetooth without a bridge. But Bluetooth has major limitations:

Step-by-Step Setup

1. Set Up the Bridge

  1. Connect bridge to router via Ethernet cable
  2. Plug in bridge power
  3. Wait for all 4 lights to turn on (solid)

2. Install Hue App

  1. Download Philips Hue app (iOS/Android)
  2. Create Philips Hue account
  3. App will find bridge automatically
  4. Press button on bridge when prompted

3. Add Bulbs

  1. Screw bulbs into fixtures
  2. Turn on power to fixtures

Hue includes pre-made scenes like Relax, Energize, Concentrate, and many photo-based scenes.
