Rule of thumb: Size panels for 1.5x daily usage to account for inefficiencies and cloudy days. For

Step 2: Choose a Charge Controller
Two types:
- PWM (Pulse Width Modulation): Cheaper ($30-50), but 20-30% less efficient. Only use if panel
voltage matches battery voltage (12V panel to 12V battery). - MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking): More expensive ($100-300), but 20-30% more efficient.
Converts higher-voltage panels to optimal battery charging. Recommended for most RV installs.
Step 3: Wiring the System
Basic Wiring Diagram
- Solar Panels connect to Charge Controller (+IN and -IN)
- Charge Controller connects to Battery (+BAT and -BAT)

Series vs Parallel
- Series (+ to -): Adds voltage, same amperage. Good for long wire runs, requires MPPT
controller. - Parallel (+ to +, – to -): Same voltage, adds amperage. Works with PWM controllers, better
shade tolerance.
For most RVs: Wire panels in series and use an MPPT controller for maximum efficiency.
Step 5: Mount Panels
Options:
- Permanent roof mount: Drill through roof, seal with Dicor. Always charging when parked.
- Tilt mounts: Adjustable angle for better sun exposure.
