In 2022, Eufy faced serious privacy allegations. Security researchers found footage could be accessed outside the

What Happened (2022)

Security researcher Paul Moore discovered:

  • Thumbnails uploaded to cloud: Despite “local only” marketing, face detection thumbnails were
    sent to AWS servers
  • Streams accessible via URL: Live camera feeds could potentially be accessed if someone had the
    right URL
  • Encryption concerns: Streams weren’t using industry-standard encryption

Eufy’s Response

After initial denials, Eufy/Anker admitted to the issues and implemented fixes:

  • Thumbnail uploads stopped: Push notifications no longer send thumbnails to cloud
  • URL access patched: Direct URL stream access blocked
  • Encryption improved: Added end-to-end encryption
  • Web portal changes: Debug mode and direct access removed
